Viva Las Vegas -- June 18, 2005

dice

What a day.  The sun greeted all 40 players as they reached the Mahoney Golf Course on saturday morning bright and early.  You couldn't have asked for a nicer start to the Viva Las Vegas Tournament.  mahoneypros The tournament was a team event where all four players of a team played their own ball in a stroke play format.  Then when the golf was done you came into the club house and rolled the dice to see who's score would count for a particular hole.  Interesting....talk about the luck of the draw....or should I say the roll.

Cory Fletcher, Pro, and Robert Haumont greeted all the ladies and made sure they were all prepared for the start of another LWMGA tournament.

Tarin, the friendly neighborhood cart girl, kept us all refreshed throughout the day with cool beverages of all sorts.  Many thanks, Tarin.

Andrew Kelly, Assistant Pro and pictured below in red, came out on Hole #2 to challenge us to a contest which I believe many just had to try.  The idea was to bet $5-15 that you could hit the green on the par 3 hole.  Then Andrew took the same club and tried to hit his ball closer to the pin than you.  If you beat Andrew, you doubled your money.  If you got your ball within a 20' circle on the green then you tripled your money.  If only it had been 21'.....I know....such a sad story huh.  Ha ha  But I believe a few gals came away with a little more than they started with.  Way to go gals.  And thank you Andrew for the early morning challenge.

It was then time to get serious about our golf games.   And there was never a dull moment.  Odds were I'd see a smile amongst any one of the groups at any one time.

Becky Williams felt it was a little warm at times so managed to find a nice tree with ample shade to rest while waiting to hit her next shot.

Tina Gaines, a new member this year, managed to get up close and personal with the long rough at Mahoney.  But she located her ball and then  proceeded to smack that puppy right back in the fairway.  WAY TO GO TINA!!

rough Tina then turned to me and said "This isn't that tough....it was tougher in the western part of Nebraska.  Now that is rough!!"  I smiled and hoped I'd never have to find out how tough it was.  concentrate

I looked over to the next hole and caught Jan McNally very intent on hitting the best shot she could to the Par 3 #17 hole.

Atta girl.....FOCUS!!

When the day of golf was over we all came in and got to the serious gambling.  Well, we rolled the dice and Cheryl Ober showed off her lovely dice that was used on one of the holes as our fairway target.  cheryl Very nice job Cheryl....oh and by the way.....can I borrow that for my trip to Las Vegas?  Well, maybe not.  You know how I am about betting on quarters.....tee hee.

I caught Barb Hart after the round with her friend Jean Krull and it looked like they both had had a good time.  That is what it is all about really isn't it?
