LWMGA Spring Swing 2005
Howdy ladies!!! The first tournament of the 2005 season, The
Spring Swing, was held at Holmes Golf Course today April 30th. It
was a rather chilly day but when the sun did make an appearance the temperatures
didn't seem too extreme. Or was it the fact that we were all so
happy it wasn't raining and we were finally able to get out and play
some golf that made us tolerate the temperature? And of course,
it wouldn't be Nebraska golf if the breezes.....ok....winds......ok......WINDS
didn't make an appearance before the day was out. But John Craw,
golf pro, graciouslyallowed us to have a shotgun start at 9am so
we all got to experience the same course conditions and finish in time
to visit and enjoy the refreshments at the Club House. Thank you
John.
We want to welcome four new members who came out and joined
us for this Scramble event. From left to right: Kellie Draper,
Donna Kolc, Judy Marquart, and Mary Wellman
are shown here. I hope they had a great time. I
know I enjoyed the day with my fellow partner Judy Marquart.
And of course, after the long winter months without seeing
our fellow golfers, some of us are so "happy" to see each other when
the season of golfing begins. Gloria and Carla share a lighter
moment and enjoy catching up on all the latest events.
Conversations about other sports do come up, such as, baseball
for example. Some comments might be like, "Hey, I think I can
drive my ball over the left field wall?" and "You know your
good if you can drop a wedge shot between shortstop and 3rd base."

But of course, it isn't long and we are all back in the right
frame of mind and thinking golf again. Thank goodness.
Now I know this is really an uncommon place to find Jo Donahoe,
under a tree. But she was kind enough to help me begin to gather
some pictures for an upcoming feature to appear on our web site. The
Rules Gallery. So keep an eye out for it in the future. We
will try and address a number of rules issues that always seem to crop
up during the year and it will also serve as a resource for our
members whenever they have a question.
Thank you Jo. Your showing great form.
I would be remiss if I didn't get at least one picture in of some
golfers enjoying the day at Holmes. And even managed to catch
the image when the sun was out.
And we all know this view on the left. The beautiful fairway
on #15 from the teeing ground. The crab trees were extra pretty this
spring if you caught them in bloom. And it also looks like the wet
weather has helped the growth of our lovely "hazard" area.
I think I need to give a nice pat on the back of all who participated
in this tournament. We were asked to complete the round in 4 hours
and 45 minutes and you not only met the challenge you exceeded it by
completing the round in 4 hours and 15 min. KUDOS LADIES!!! Of
course, we all know it is not the women slowing down play on the courses,
now don't we?
After the round we are all able to sit and enjoy some refreshments
at the club house. Of course, some move entirely too fast for me
but I'll warm up before the year is out.
Cool though isn't it.
Deb Essex has been making some ball washers for those of us who like
to clean their ball on something other than their pant legs. Here
is an example of one she has made. There were many designs so check
them out. For a small fee you too can clean up your act on the green.
Maxine Von Dane very graciously donated a picture that she had done as a
raffle prize for our tournament. Any one who knows Maxine knows she
is a very gifted artist. I have been privileged to see a few of her
projects and she is amazing.
Susan Holland was the raffle winner and is shown here along with the lovely
picture.
Thank you Maxine for donating the picture and congratulations on the winning
ticket Susan.
As some of us party on we want to make sure to recognize the winners
of the day.
Karen Flowers, Georgene Kalnins, Chris Lange, and
Jan McNally put together a pretty darn good score of 67. Way
to go gals!
See you all at the next event.
